Possesses a collection of books dating between the Fifteenth to the Nineteenth-Century, as well as different publications specialized in art and design, and a wide number of auction catalogues and exhibitions of national and international museums.
The collection stands out for the historical value of the books, which are organized in different funds. The antique and rare books fund, that belong to the period between 1484-1799, holds European incunabula, bibles, missals, manuscripts, choir books and nobility certificates. The second fund is integrated by historic documents such as testimonies, propriety titles, and fiscal reports mostly from the Nineteenth-Century. Likewise, the Convent Fund, which has 420 manuscripts with various themes, bound in parchment that come from different religious orders. Moreover, the Cervantes Fund, one of the most important Cervantes collections in Latin America, contains almost 800 editions of Don Quixote in 19 languages. Amongst those, it is possible to find first editions, translations, and some copies that have the original illustrations by Gustave Doré.
Whilst the original collection responds to the interests of Franz Mayer for old books and documents, the library is constantly enriched by contemporary editions and titles that keep the content up-to-date and work as a tool for further research. As of today, the library has around 22,000 books.
